Diego Maradona’s ex-girlfriend has denied claims that their six-year-old son is using cannabis oil and she slammed the Argie legend saying “he never came to see him (his son), he never called.”
Maradona’s ex-girlfriend Veronica Ojeda, 42, made the comments during an interview with Argentine news website ‘Teleshow’ where she denied claims that her son with Maradona, 59, Diego Fernando Maradona, is taking cannabis oil as a treatment for his autism.
Argentine woman Araceli Rea claimed Maradona told her Ojeda “was starting to think about giving him (Diego) oil” after the former footballer made a video with pro-cannabis group ‘La Semilla’ last week.
Ojeda denied the claims saying: “Nobody consulted me about anything” adding that “Diegui (nickname for Diego) is not being given oil of any kind.
She went on to list the treatments the young boy receives, saying: “He only receives speech therapy, psycho-pedagogy and goes to an occupational therapist.”
When speaking about Maradona’s contact with Diego, Ojeda revealed: “As for the father, since his return from Mexico, he never came to see him so he does not know how our son is doing. He never called him.”
Ojeda was apparently referring to Maradona’s stint managing Mexican side Dorados Sinaloa last year before returning to Argentina to manage his current club Gimnasia Esgrima La Plata.
Ojeda also spoke about her role as a single mother saying: “I do everything by myself, I take him to every therapy session. Thank God Diegui is doing very well.”
When asked about how she felt about having to raise Diego on her own, Ojeda said: “We are adults, I am already hardened by all the blows that life has given me.”
Local media said that Diego turns seven years old on Thursday 13th February. It is unclear if Maradona is expected to attend his birthday celebration.
Maradona and Ojeda ended their eight-year relationship in 2012 when she was three months pregnant with Diego.
Gimnasia are currently 19th in the Argentine Superliga with positions 22nd to 24th being relegated.
The club are fighting relegation with four matches left in the Argentine top-flight as they are level on points with 20th place CA Colon but on top by goal difference.
The clubs in the 21st to 23rd positions are all level on 16 points.
Gimnasia are set to play the 9th place CA Rosario Central on Saturday 15th February.
