This X-ray shows the jackknife and lighter that have now been removed from a man’s stomach after he swallowed them whilst suffering “intense stress”.

The bizarre incident took place in the Ualikhanovsky District of northern Kazakhstan when the unnamed man was hospitalised on 26th April.

He underwent an X-ray which showed he had a jackknife and lighter in his abdominal cavity which the man said he had swallowed.

He was taken for an urgent operation and doctors specialised in aviation had to perform the surgery as they were the only medics available at the time.

The operation was a success and a photo shows the knife and lighter after they had been removed from the man’s body. Local media report the man said he had swallowed the items when suffering from intense emotional stress but the exact circumstances were not reported.

He reportedly remains in recovery in hospital.

The incident comes after earlier this month over 100 self-tapping screws, a magnet and a nail clipper were extracted out of a prisoner’s stomach in the city of Kokhetau in northern Kazakhstan’s Aqmola Region.

The man underwent urgent surgery to remove the items which lasted around one hour and saw 875 grams (1.92 lbs) of foreign bodies extracted from his body. Local media report the operation was a success with no complications and the patient has been discharged.
