A man has claimed that he was set on fire by his parents for marrying his love without their blessing, resulting in him being scarred for life.

The incident is alleged to have taken place in an unspecified location in Rwanda, and the victim, named as Mugabarigira Jean Claude, told Afrimax TV he is now struggling to cope with the painful injuries he has been left with.

He said that the attack seriously injured his upper body including his chest, back and his waist.

He said that his parents tried to set him up with a woman he had never met, but he refused and instead introduced them to the love of his life, named only as Yvonne, who is now the mother of his three children.

But he said that one day, his parents paid him a visit and gave him a drink laced with sleeping pills, which knocked him out.

He was then allegedly covered in petrol and set on fire.

Thankfully, some neighbours intervened and he was rescued before being taken to hospital where he spent the next 22 days in a coma.

On the day he was discharged from hospital, he said that his parents went to his house and attacked his wife and himself, throwing stones at them.

Yvonne reportedly said that she will stand by her man no matter what, and the two are reportedly now thinking about moving house to avoid any further attacks.

It is currently unclear if the authorities are investigating the matter and if the man’s parents have been charged.
