This is the moment a dejected young man clambers into a large aquarium in a supermarket to ‘fish out’ an engagement ring that had been thrown in there by his girlfriend who refused his proposal.

The incident was filmed in the Almi shopping centre in the city of Gomel in south-eastern Belarus, and the footage has been viewed 162,000 times on social media.

Filmed by his friend, the dejected young man removes his backpack and appears to explain the situation to a member of staff before climbing into the large tank and fishing out his ring.

According to local media, the 23-year-old man had just proposed to his girlfriend in the shop.

However, instead of a tearful acceptance, the unnamed woman didn’t just decline his proposal, she also threw his ring into the aquarium for good measure.

As well as being knocked back by the woman he planned to spend the rest of his life with, the young man also has to pay a fine for hooliganism, according to local media.

Reports said that supermarket security did not detain the man at the time, but bosses decided to report him to the police afterwards.

When he heard that the cops were looking for him, he came to the police station himself.

Netizen ‘Egor Dubroski’ said: “I think he did that just to get some media attention.”

‘DarkerThan Black’ commented: “He is such an idiot. She did the right thing when she said no!”
