This is the moment firefighters rescue a villager from the bottom of a 65-foot well after he plunged into the hole while picking flowers.

The unnamed resident of Honggou Village in the city of Jiyuan, which is in Central China’s Henan Province, fell into the uncovered well on the morning of 30th October.

Local villagers called the fire service after having no means of rescuing the man stuck at the bottom of the 20-metre (65-foot) well, in which the victim was likely to suffocate to death due to a lack of oxygen.

Footage of the rescue shows a fireman being lowered down into the well in order to reach the injured villager, who was picking wild flowers when he accidentally stepped into the well.

He reportedly hurt his waist during the fall.

The village remained fully conscious as the firefighter tied a rescue harness around his torso and others above ground pulled him to safety.

The footage shows the fire service then pulling the rescuer back up to the surface too.

The villager was treated at a local hospital and is not in any life-threatening condition, the fire service said.

Reports did not say whether the well was covered after the accident.
