A man has gone on the run after allegedly raping his female neighbour while her daughters were home just hours after he got married.
The incident took place in the city of Governador Valadares in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais in the early hours of Sunday morning (14th November), just hours after the 38-year-old suspect married another woman.
According to the news site Estado de Minas, the suspect’s bride told the police that they got married in a civil ceremony on Saturday (13th November) and were to hold a church wedding on the Sunday.
The 23-year-old victim told the police that she encountered the suspect, who is believed to live on the same street, in her home at around 2am.
The man pulled out a knife and demanded the woman’s phone before threatening to kill her two daughters, aged 4 and 2.
He then took the victim into the living room and allegedly raped her, telling her: “I’m getting married and this is going to be my farewell.”
During the ordeal, the suspect reportedly took cocaine and entered the children’s room while naked, threatening to kill them.
After the suspect fled the house after threatening to have the victim killed if she reported the incident, the victim called the police and also her mother, who she told what had happened and described the attacker, according to Estado de Minas.
After the discussion, the mother reportedly suspected a man who lived on the same street of raping her daughter.
After receiving medical attention, the victim gave the police the suspect’s knife, a towel he had used, and some leftover cocaine.
The police visited the suspect’s house where his wife told officers that he had disappeared.
She said he had returned home briefly on Sunday morning, saying he would pop out to buy milk, but never returned and still remains at large.
The manhunt continues.
