A Syrian immigrant is on trial after he stabbed his wife over 31 times in the car in front of their three children because he assumed she was cheating on him with his cousin.

Pizza courier Wahid S., 30, (who was also reported as Wahid A. in several media) was charged for treacherous murder of base motives by the Regional Court in the city of Paderborn in Germany after he butchered his wife Nuha, 20, who he thought was having an affair with his cousin.

The incident happened in their VW Golf in front of their three children on 3rd November 2020.

The Syrian couple had martial problems because Wahid S. was convinced of his wife alleged adultery and went to visit their relatives who helped them reconcile earlier during the day of the murder.

After the couple left their relatives’ apartment and got inside the vehicle, Wahid S. attacked Nuha with a knife he managed to take unnoticed from his relatives’ kitchen.

According to the autopsy the 30-year-old man stabbed his wife over 31 times with the 16,5 centimetre-long (6,5 inches) blade whilst he also hit her in the head, neck back, lungs, arms and hands and upper body.

The 20-year-old mother of three bled to death in front of her children in the passenger seat of the car shortly after.

Covered in blood Wahid S. went to his relatives’ apartment immediately after the incident, but was overpowered by the police at the crime scene.

One of the relatives told Bild: “After the act, Wahid told me that she [Nuha] had lied and cheated on him. He killed her because he needed to defend his honour.”

The pizza courier on the other hand accused his relatives of the murder and said: “I drank another glass of water before we left their home. There must have been something in the water. I passed out in the car. When I came to myself again Nuha was lying on the seat covered in blood.”

The defendant’s lawyer who applied for a blood analysis report said: “The blood on my client’s clothing and body does not match what happens.”

It is unknown whether Nuha was truly having an affair with the cousin.

The couple’s three children are taken care of by the Youth Office for children’s welfare.

The trial continues.
