Man Nearly Kills Girlfriend Over Passing Comment At Her Own Bday Party

This pretty Brazilian woman has been brutally beaten by her jealous boyfriend at her own birthday party after her friend made a passing comment about her previous relationships.

Sales rep Mariana Gonzalez Barrero, 32, suffered the alleged attack at her birthday celebration at the hands of her boyfriend, 26-year-old Mayron Carvalho Ribeiro, in the house they shared in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo earlier this month (December 2020).

Barrero told local media: “He pulled my hair, he repeatedly punched me in the face, from above, from below, and he kneed me in the face. I couldn’t open my eye, my nose is still hurting today.”

Reports said the attack came when a passing comment from one of Barrero’s friends about her previous relationships caused Ribeiro to become jealous and fly into a rage, beating his girlfriend, smashing up her friend’s car, and wrecking part of the house.

“The whole fight was unfounded, for no reason,” said Barrero on Instagram.

Many people were also stunned by the punishment meted out to Ribeiro, who was arrested and released shortly afterwards, accused only of inflicting “minor injuries”.

He was issued with a restraining order and told to not come within 100 metres (328 feet) of the victim.

“He broke Mariana’s friend’s car, broke a headlight, scratched the car. He threw a television out the window, and he tossed Mariana’s clothes out the window,” said Barrero’s lawyer, Lais Biancalana, who wants to see Ribeiro charged with attempted homicide.

“The house had blood on the walls.”

The reported attack on Barrero ended when a friend threw a chair at Ribeiro.

“If my friend hadn’t saved my life, he would have killed me because he was going to knock me out, he was going to kick my head, he was going to kick my face. He was going to beat me to death,” said Barrero, who went to the police station straight after the attack to file a report.

The case gained attention on social media, with thousands of netizens commenting their indignation at the attack and the apparent leniency of the charges against Ribeiro.

The police are still investigating the case. If found guilty of inflicting minor injuries, Ribeiro could face from three months to a year in prison.
