This is the moment a quick-thinking man who spots a burglar entering his house outwits the crook by locking him in from the outside and calling the cops.

Surveillance footage from homeowner Mr Wang’s residence in the county of Linquan in East China’s Anhui Province shows the suspect walking through his front door and sneaking through his house on 24th October.

The suspect opens one of Mr Wang’s drawers and appears to be looking through his belongings when, just 30 seconds later, the door which he had left ajar suddenly shuts behind him.

The confused crook does not appear to realise he has been locked inside by the homeowner, and he walks up to the window to look outside as the video ends.

Officers with the Songji Police Station arrived to arrest the suspect shortly after, taking with them Mr Wang’s home surveillance footage as further evidence.

The authorities said they found that the suspect looked under Mr Wang’s bed and also went through his drawer.

Mr Wang said he had been paying special attention to all comings and goings in front of his home ever since someone stole his electric bike battery, his mobile phone and some cash.

A few days ago, he purchased another mobile phone, which came with the CCTV camera set-up, but that was stolen too.

On the day of the incident, Mr Wang had noticed the would-be burglar loitering around his house and decided to hide behind a corner to watch.

When he spotted the man enter his home, he decided to lock him in from the outside and call the cops.

The burglar was later identified as none other than Mr Wang’s neighbour’s son – the youngest of six siblings and currently unemployed.

According to reports, the suspect has five older sisters and does not work, electing instead to spend all his time in internet cafes fueling his online game addiction.

The authorities said the suspect admitted to stealing Mr Wang’s belongings and selling them in order to pay for his net bar visits.

He remains in custody.
