This is the moment a man dumped by his girlfriend threw himself on the ground in the middle of a busy road where he said he would rather be run over and killed than live without her.

The incident occurred on the highway in the city of Jiaxing in the province of Zhejiang in eastern China when the man, whose identity has not been revealed, bizarrely called police and claimed he had suffered a road accident.

But when the police arrived they found that there were no signs of any accident, just the man lying in the road and refusing to budge.

The video shows the man lying on the road as cops lift him up and move him to the car.

He told cops: “Police, please help, take a photo of me and send it to my girlfriend.

“As long as she changes her mind and comes back to my side, I will not regret it even if I sacrifice my life.”

But one of the cops warned him, saying: “You are creating a false alarm.”

The man explained that he had been in an argument with his girlfriend and she had left, and so in order to win her back he had decided to risk his own life.

It is not clear whether the man was arrested nor if his girlfriend was notified, or indeed whether she returned to him.
