A homeless man who climbed on the roof of a garage while looking for a place to sleep was horrified when the roof collapsed and he found himself lying next to this decaying corpse.

The bizarre incident took place in the south-western Russian city of Pavlovo in the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast region when an unnamed homeless man was walking along the roof of a garage.

After falling into the garage he spotted a human skeleton on the floor and called the local police.

The authorities went to the scene and found the skeleton after managing to unlock the garage door. A forensic examination then confirmed it belonged to a local resident named Alexei.

Reports state Alexei’s family had been working with the authorities to try to find him for a long time. The press service of the local police department said the corpse is being held in a morgue, as medical examiners need to discover the cause of death.

If they found he died a violent death the investigative committee will open a criminal case. The results have not yet been revealed.

Officials from the Russian Investigative Committee in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast rejected reports the body had been found by a group of young men and confirmed it was the unnamed homeless man who discovered it.
