This is the moment a driver trying to kill a mosquito on a motorway loses control of his car and slams straight into a metal crash barrier.

The dramatic crash was captured on his dashcam as he drove at speed on the Hangzhou-Ruili Expressway over the city of Tongren in Guizhou Province in south-western China.

The footage dated 16th September shows the motorist’s car veering into a lay-by before straying onto the hard shoulder and running over several mile markers.

Before he is able to swerve away from the side of the motorway, he slams into the crash barrier with a loud bang, leaving his windscreen crashed as his saloon car spins 180 degrees and stops on the road.

Images taken by officers with the Sinan Traffic Brigade show the white car to be badly damaged, with the vehicle’s passenger-side door having been torn off during the violent impact.

Pictures show the mangled door and other parts of the car still hanging on the end of the crash barrier.

The driver revealed to traffic police that he had felt a mosquito on his face and swatted at it when he lost control of his car.

It is unclear whether he managed to kill the insect in the end.

Authorities have towed his vehicle away and have cautioned him for failing to concentrate on the road.

He is not expected to be punished for dangerous driving.
