This is the moment a South African man in shorts and flip-flops chases two armed thieves from his property with a brick after reportedly foiling their plan to steal his car.

The incident took place at a property on Arundel Road in the neighbourhood of Hillary in the South African city of Durban on 9th December

In the footage, the man is seen greeting a woman, possibly his partner, after she reverses into the driveway and starts to close the gate.

A car pulls up outside and a gunman manages to squeeze through the closing gate before being joined by an armed accomplice.

The two suspects apparently steal belongings from the female driver as the man puts himself between them and at one point tries to make a grab for one of the guns.

The suspects flee the scene in their car and the man runs after them with a brick, which he hurls at the vehicle as they speed off.

It is unclear why the men did not try to steal the couple’s car, though local media suggested it was because the man gave them more of a struggle than they had bargained for.

The news site The Citizen reported that the man wrestled a gun from one of the attackers, however the video does not appear to show that.

The local authorities urged residents to take extra precautions during the festive season to protect themselves and their belongings from carjackers and opportunistic burglars.

The local police have yet to confirm if they are investigating the incident in the footage.
