A trusting smartphone owner is regretting not counting the money first after handing over a smartphone when he was given an envelope stuffed with these handmade notes.

The crudely cut banknotes with childlike drawings of the Indonesian Governor instead of the real thing had been widely shared online after the man complained about being ripped off.

In order to avoid being scammed, he had demanded cash on delivery arrangement, but when he had the large wad of cash in his hand, was happy to hand over the phone without checking it before the buyer, who was sitting on a motorbike, sped off.

The incident was reported by the local police force in the city of Samarinda, the capital of the province of East Kalimantan, the Indonesian portion of the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia.

According to the police report posted on Instagram, the local man, who has not been named, agreed to meet the buyer in person after they agreed on the price of IDR 900,000 (GBP 47).

According to his account, the buyer was straddling his motorbike with the engine running the whole time and as soon as he got the phone, not unexpectedly he drove away.

Seeing the speedy exit, the seller decided to just check the money and only then did he realise he had been given fake notes with the hilarious childish drawings in red crayon of Governor Syahril Sabirin and Deputy Iwan R. Prawiranata.

The man said he tried to chase after the buyer but it was too late and he has filed a report at the police station.
