This is the moment a man filming a tidal bore – dubbed the world’s largest and known locally as the silver dragon – is suddenly swept off his feet by a huge wave.

Tourists gather in droves every year in August to see the Qiantang River’s incredible waves that can reach 30 feet. This incident was filmed in the city of Haining in the eastern Chinese province of Zhejiang.

According to reports, the unnamed man was swept by the tidal wave to the edge of the wall where he was pulled to safety by those around him.

Eyewitness Ms. Hu told local media: “It was 1.30pm when the Qiantang River Tide came, there were many people playing on the river wall below.

“When the tide was coming, I called all my family because I know the power of the tide, but the man was still standing there near the fence.”

After the huge wave swept the man off his feet, Hu said: “We were all terrified. Luckily, the man was caught by a woman on the stairs.”

A tidal bore is is a phenomenon that takes place when the incoming tide travels up a river against the direction of the current.

Reports said that the man, who was on the river wall with his wife, suffered minor injuries to his arm and back.

He is said to be a local resident, but failed to realise the power of the river tide that day.
