Man Drowns Moments After Posting Celebratory Birthday Snap At Lakeside

This birthday boy has drowned moments after he posted a picture of himself online thanking God for a wonderful life, and saying how happy he was.

Dilson Garcia Vilhalva drowned while celebrating his 31st birthday at the Estancia Sonho Meu lake, which is located about 15 kilometres (9.3 miles) from the municipality of Ribas do Rio Pardo, which is located in the Midwestern Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul at around 6 PM on Sunday 5th December.

The fire department responded to the scene but the searched had to be called off because it was too dark.

The man’s lifeless body was only found in the early hours of Monday morning when rescuers returned and carried out a two hour search.

He is believed to have suffered a cramp and drowned. Rescuers only found his body at about 10:30 AM Monday morning, about 35 metres (115 feet) from the shore at a depth of 4 metres (13 feet).

Moments before he drowned, Dilson had posted a snap on social media and said: “A toast to life, another year, new achievements, new dreams, thanking God for everything. So happy.”

He also posted a photo of the lake saying that this is where he was celebrating his birthday party, which is reportedly on the banks of the dam of the Mimoso power plant.

The investigation is ongoing and the man’s body is set to be taken to the Institute of Medicine and Forensic Dentistry for autopsy.

Many people left condolences at his passing including family members who remarked on the tragic loss with one saying: “You left us too soon”.

According to local officials three people died in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul from drowning on the same weekend.
