A man who allegedly stuck a pen through his eye and all the way into his brain during a nervous breakdown has died in hospital after surgeons removed it.
The shocking incident took place in the city of Rostov-on-Don in the south western Russian region of Rostov Oblast.
According to the newspaper Life, the 37-year-old man was admitted to hospital with a ballpoint pen in his eye and brain.
Doctors said the pen pierced his skull and was just a millimetre from important blood vessels and the brain stem.
According to Life, the patient told medical staff he stuck the pen in his eye during a nervous breakdown.
Neurosurgeons operated on the man to remove the ballpoint pen, after which he was taken to the intensive care unit, but passed away shortly afterwards.
An investigation into the victim’s death is underway.
