Manchester City have reportedly hijacked Barcelona’s push for Brazilian starlet Yan Couto after doubling the Spanish giant’s offer.

Brazilian news outlet ‘GloboEsporte’ report Manchester City have made a 15-million-EUR (12.69-million-GBP) offer to Brazilian side Coritiba for 17-year-old full-back Couto.

The offer reportedly includes an initial fee of 9 million EUR (7.61 million GBP) with another 6 million EUR (5.07 million GBP) in add-ons.

This reportedly almost doubles Barcelona’s initial offer 5 million EUR (4.23 million GBP) plus add-ons.

Local media report Couto’s agent Marcelo Robalinho has not made any comments on the offer.

Barcelona reportedly tried to close the Couto deal as quickly as possible as other European club giants were showing interest in the young right-back such as Arsenal and Bayer Leverkusen.

He is considered to be one of the most promising defenders in Brazil.

The clubs have until tomorrow (Friday) to reach a deal as it marks the end of the transfer window.

Couto was part of the Brazil squad that won the Under-17 World Cup in 2019 for the first time since 2003.

He joined Brazilian side Coritiba at nine years of age and rose through the ranks of the youth squad. He was reported to be close to being close to joining the first team after his success at the Under-17 World Cup.
