This is the moment a four-year-old boy plunges from a shopfront sign outside a nursery school before he is caught by a man on the ground at the last second.

The incident was filmed on Wugang Street in the city of Shaoyang in the south-eastern Chinese province of Hunan and posted on social networks where it has been widely viewed.

According to local media, the four-year-old boy was hanging from a sign outside the balcony of a Chinese-English nursery school.

In the footage, about a dozen people are seen looking up at the struggling boy on the pavement.

Meanwhile, the youngster is clinging onto the sign as two men climb up a metal fence to try to reach him.

As the two men appear to be touching his feet, the boy suddenly lets go and the helpers completely miss him.

Meanwhile, the youngster tumbles head-first to the ground and misses the metal fence before a man in a white shirt appears to catch him at the last moment.

According to local media, the boy’s mother arrived on the scene and hugged her rescued son in floods of tears.

Luckily, reports said that he four-year-old was unharmed.

Local residents said that the youngster is the son of the nursery school owner although it is unclear how he ended up hanging from the sign.
