A man was caught by a nurse trying to rape a 92-year-old woman in a Paris care home during the coronavirus pandemic.

The man, unnamed but who is reportedly 62 years old, has been arrested and held in custody while the Paris judiciary police investigate.

The incident took place in the 12th arrondissement in Paris after the nurse raised the alarm after having walked in on the suspect in the victim’s bedroom in the EHPAD (Etablissement d’Hebergement pour Personnes Agees Dependantes; an assisted living retirement home).

The suspect was apprehended while attempting to flee the premises.

The suspect has been charged with “attempted rape on a vulnerable person” and is being held in temporary custody, a police source told local media.

The victim, in a state of shock, has been hospitalised.

For a long time the coronavirus death toll in France’s EHPAD’s was withheld by the government but it is now known that elderly people in EHPAD’s represent half of France’s COVID-19 deaths.

Le Monde reported that over 13,000 people out of approximately 25,000 coronavirus deaths in France were elderly and living in retirement homes.
