This young mum and her father have been blasted with a shotgun by her jealous ex-husband as she walked out of a divorce court a free woman.
Cemile Nur Acar, 23, married Onur Acar, 30, last year after defying her family over the relationship, and even got pregnant and had a baby with him.
However, things quickly turned sour and degenerated into violent conflict, resulting in her filing for divorce.
Acar refused to accept that she wanted a divorce, and as she walked out of the court he reportedly shot her at point-blank range with a shotgun and also blasted her father Abdullah Duman, 48.
Police said he was arrested immediately after the shooting that took place outside the courtroom on Cumhuriyet Square in the north-western Turkish city of Bilecik on 16th November.
The young woman’s father was killed instantly while Cemile herself survived for 12 days, but it has now been revealed that she too has succumbed to her injuries.
The 23-year-old woman leaves behind an 11-month-old baby who is being cared for by her mother, who is now widowed.
According to the news site Ege Telgraf, a relative of Cemile identified as Zuhal Kaygisiz described her as the crazy one in the family, always doing mad things.
So they were not surprised when she married somebody that the rest of the family did not approve of, but seeing that she was determined to be with him they accepted it and even started to warm to him.
She said: “We all thought it was madness when she married him. We didn’t want him in our family, but then we had to accept it and after we had, they broke up because they were really getting into some heavy rows.”
Acar is currently being held in custody at the Bilecik M Type Closed Prison.
Cemile Nur’s funeral was held in the district of Yenikoy in the centre of Bilecik following afternoon prayer. The ceremony took place earlier than planned to avoid large crowds gathering.
The investigation continues.
