A 33-year-old man has been arrested for beating a suspected paedophile to death after reportedly helping to save two minors from his clutches.

The incident took place in the city of Ufa in the south-western Russian republic of Bashkortostan when Vladimir Sankin was taking a walk.

According to local media, a 14-year-old boy ran out of a block of flats screaming for help and claiming that a neighbour was abusing him and a friend.

After the boys left the building, Sankin went to find the alleged paedophile, aged 54, and reportedly beat him up.

Sankin then called an ambulance for the badly-injured man, but he died of his injuries several hours after the incident, according to reports.

Sankin later told reporters: “I didn’t want to kill him, I just wanted to save the kids from him.”

The 33-year-old man has been placed under house arrest for two months as the investigation continues, according to local media.

Meanwhile, a group of Sankin’s family, friends and neighbours have come together to call on the authorities to let him go, according to reports.

They claim that Sankin made the right decision to help the children and did not intend to kill the suspect.

Many netizens also supported Sankin, with ‘Adik Adikovich’ commenting: “A true ‘Russian hero’. They give medals to b*stards while real heroes go to prison.”

‘Aleksey Kulikov’ said: “He acted correctly when he saved the kids, but probably killed the man in the heat of the moment.”
