The young man, who has not been named, claims his pustules began growing on both buttocks, his crotch, inner thighs and armpits in secondary school.
The 27-year-old from Taiwan’s south-western port city of Kaohsiung graduated and reached adulthood without having had a girlfriend for 10 years because he was too afraid to show any potential partners his pus-filled bum.
After being repeatedly misdiagnosed with acne – and given ineffective treatment as a result – the patient finally received positive news at Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital.
Doctor Tseng Han-chi, head of dermatology, identified his illness as hidradenitis suppurativa – a skin condition caused by inflammation of the hair follicles in his groin and armpits.
The man said his warts and pustules not only hurt, but they would also burst out in pus whenever he sat down.
As a result, he had to stuff his underpants with tissue for 10 years in order to avoid what he called a “pus explosion” in his underwear.
Besides being too afraid to date, the patient admitted he never went swimming either.
Doctor Tseng says he was treated with weekly immuno-suppressant shots and antibiotics.
He is on the road to recovery and it now no longer smarts to sit on his backside.
It is unclear whether the patient plans to get cosmetic surgery to remedy his buttocks.
