A German man has tried to kill himself after claiming his pet chicken died after having its feathers plucked and its legs broken by a neighbour.

The chicken owner identified only as Lars N. because of local privacy laws, parked his car on Bendorfer Bridge near the German city of Koblenz and intentionally jumped off of it after failing to come to terms with his beloved pets tragic death at the hands of the alleged animal abuser neighbour, according to reports.

Local media said he even asked a witness to film everything and claimed the reason was that he could not cope with the death of his pet chicken, called Rambo.

Lars N. survived the 12 metre (39 feet) fall, however, his jump resulted in a broken leg and wrist.

The 26-year-old man told police that his 84-year-old neighbour, Horst F. in the village of Marzhausen in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, was responsible for the cruel attack.

Lars N. claimed his neighbour was the one who plucked his chicken and broke both its legs, which resulted in the chicken losing appetite and eventually dying despite medical treatment.

He said his loss was compounded by the fact that his animal cruelty complaint was not being taken seriously by police, prompting to him to consume large amounts of Jagermeister and cocaine, and then deciding to kill himself by jumping off the bridge.

He was also facing a police investigation for allegedly attacking the neighbour who he believed had injured his chicken. Despite the name, it was not confirmed whether the chicken was male or female.

His neighbour Horst F. has denied involvement in the torturing of the chicken saying: “I have lived in the village for 46 years, and not once have I had any issues with neighbours. I never even touched the chicken!”

Lars N. will receive the police decision this week on the police investigation into his attack of his neighbour. The complaint he made for animal abuse has already apparently been rejected.
