This video shows a male deer KO-ing an ornamental reindeer to the ground after it regarded it as a potential rival for female attention.

The incident took place on local resident Arlene Chmelyk’s front lawn in the community of Fort Nelson in the Canadian province of British Columbia.

Chmelyk came home one day to find the ornamental reindeer she had put up on her front lawn for Christmas had been trampled on the ground.

She checked the footage from her home security camera, only to find the culprit was, in fact, another deer.

The footage shows how the deer eyes up and begins to circle its rival, failing to spot it as an ornament despite its red light bulb for a nose.

It approaches the ornamental reindeer but swiftly backs off in fear before finally finding the courage to have a go at it, knocking it to the ground before running off through the snow.

Chmelyk, who has been putting up the reindeer on her lawn for the past five Christmases, told reporters that the ornament has long piqued the curiosity of the local deer population.

She believes male deer mistakenly identify it as another buck, given the antlers on its head, and attack it as a rival during the festive period, which coincides with rutting season.

Chmelyk revealed the ornamental reindeer has taken a number of beatings over the years and has lots its head, legs and other body parts, which are glued back on year on year.
