The Spanish province of Malaga will give healthcare workers bonuses of 100 EUR (89 GBP) to spend in hotels in the region.

According to local media, the Provincial Deputation of the Spanish province of Malaga in the autonomous community of Andalusia in the south of the country has announced they will subsidise 25,000 stays in local hotels giving 100 EUR (89 GBP) bonuses to health professionals.

The vice-president of the Provincial Deputation of Malaga Margarita del Cid told local media: “Without a doubt, it is a big incentive for a group that deserves it and I am sure they will take advantage of it to get to know Malaga better.”

The economic measure follows the lead of the Italian Government which has announced they will give a bonus of 500 EUR (446 GBP) to families with a low income to spend in hotels and hostels in the country to promote national tourism.

Reports said that the local authorities in Malaga will invest 10,87 million EUR (9,690,931 GBP) in promotional actions coordinated by the tourism office Turismo Costa del Sol to promote the activity in the region.

Del Cid added: “More and better tourism, more liquid funds for city councils, everything for a single target which is that the province of Malaga recovers the pace of its economy and creates jobs and opportunities for everybody.”

Earlier last week, The regional government of the autonomous community of Andalusia in southern Spain reportedly approved a plan to open beaches this summer following strict sanitary measures.

It also includes reducing capacity to around 40 percent of the visitors that were previously permitted in order to allow a safe distance between beach-goers of 2.5 metres.

They are also planning to ban ball games and anything else that would bring them in contact with other beach visitors.
