Local residents in tourist hotspot Majorca have complained about this boat party where dozens of people gathered on boats and jet skis, ignoring social distancing and breaking coronavirus regulations.

According to local newspaper Diario de Mallorca, revellers who were not respecting social distancing or wearing face masks gathered for an “improvised boat party” on three boats and several jet skis near the shore of Playa del Oratori beach in the municipality of Calvia on the Spanish Balearic island of Majorca.

The images show the three boats floating next to the seashore with several people gathered on board or sitting on jet skis.

Diario de Mallorca report residents warned the local authorities that the people on the boats spent Sunday evening (12th July) listening to loud music in the unauthorised party.

National radio station and news outlet Cope report that people attending parties that are not authorised by the city council could face fines of up to 60,000 EUR (53,963 GBP) for breaking coronavirus restrictions.

However, it is unclear if the local authorities took legal action against the people at this party.

The boat party took place a day before the Balearic Islands government announced a ban on crowds of more than 70 people and made the use of the face masks obligatory everywhere except at the beach, respected newspaper El Mundo reported.

Diario de Mallorca also reports that the local police and the Spanish Civil Guard of the municipality of Calvia filed a legal complaint against a bar named Roxy’s Beach Bar also on Playa del Oratori beach the previous weekend because it exceeded its capacity.

Several customers in the bar were not wearing face masks, Diario de Mallorca report.
