This maid is facing life in jail and the cane after she allegedly attacked her employer with a knife when she was refused permission to go back home.

The maid, aged 34, whose name was not given, had been working for the woman she is accused of attacking, Lianhe Wanbao, for three months in Singapore.

She was employed to care for Lianhe Wanbao’s mother and both the employer and the maid are from Myanmar. The maid however had requested permission to go home, and her employer and she got into a row when this was refused.

Police were called by Lianhe Wanbao, 60, who said she had been attacked with a knife, and when they turned up at her Commonwealth Close flat on the island state, she was reportedly unconscious and needed to be hospitalised.

Police said she had a four-centimetre (1.5-inch) cut on her head and also suffered injuries to her neck and hands. Her condition is reportedly stable.

The maid was tracked down and arrested a few hours after the attack at Singapore Changi Airport at Terminal 1 from where she was apparently planning to fly home.

She has now been charged with GBH with a dangerous weapon and could be jailed for life after being fined and caned if convicted.
