This is the moment a bear attacking a seal is spooked by two fishermen in a boat and runs off allowing its prey to dart back into the water.

The incident took place at an unidentified location in the Russian Far East and was recorded by one of the fishermen as they spotted a brown bear (Ursus arctos) standing over a Baikal seal (Pusa sibirica).

In the video, the bear can be seen attacking the seal, biting at its flesh as the fishermen approach in their boat.

The bear sprints away and one of the fishermen then makes a grunting sound.

The seal then begins shuffling down the sand and reaches the safety of the water after the bear flees.

Local media report brown bears, unlike polar bears (Ursus maritimus), are rarely interested in Baikal seals as prey.

Netizens loved the footage, such as ‘arien’ who said: “I bet this bear wasn’t too hungry. Otherwise it would have snacked on the seal, and both of these fishermen.”

And ‘rei-paper’ added: “Well, who is going to save the fish that this seal will decide to have for lunch?!”

But ‘salato7’ commented: “Yes, they did save this seal. But what about humans? This bear is now hungry and might attack a person. Has anyone thought of that?”
