LUCKY BREAK: Man Pops To Shops During Half Time And Wins USD 100,000 Lottery Prize

A man who popped to the shops during half-time while watching an American football game has won USD 100,000 playing the lottery.

Lyncurgus ‘Curt’ Williams of New Bern, North Carolina, went to the shops while watching the Pittsburgh Steelers game on Sunday, 11th December and was stunned when he won the USD 100,000 (GBP 80,660) lottery prize.

Newsflash obtained a statement from the North Carolina Education Lottery on Tuesday, 13th December, saying: “At halftime of the Pittsburgh Steelers game Sunday, Lyncurgus Williams of New Bern decided he needed some sides for a game day meal so he stopped at the store, bought a scratch-off ticket, and scored a USD 100,000 lottery prize.”

Williams said: “I scratched it off right in the store.”

He added: “I was ecstatic.”

The North Carolina Education Lottery said: “Williams said he only stopped at the Harris Teeter on MLK Boulevard in New Bern to pick up sides. Then he noticed only one USD 30 [GBP 24.20] Fabulous Fortune ticket for sale so he bought it.”

Williams said: “I was so excited I didn’t even get my sides.”

Lottery officials said: “Williams collected his prize at lottery headquarters Tuesday and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home USD 71,019 [GBP 57,305].”

The lucky winner said: “Now I can remodel my house.”

He added: “I’ve been wanting to do that for a very long time.”

The North Carolina Education Lottery said: “Fabulous Fortune debuted in July with six USD 3 million [GBP 2.42 million] prizes and 18 USD 100,000 prizes. One USD 3 million top prize and eight USD 100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.”
