This is the moment a loyal Golden Retriever swims in the water after jumping in after its owner at a swimming race but it became tired and had to be rescued after climbing on another participant’s back.

The heartwarming incident occurred at Second International Open Water Swimming Race, held in the Black Sea in the Turkish province of Zongulda.

In the video, dozens of swimmers can be seen jumping into the sea as a Golden Retriever stands at the edge of the diving platform barking.

The loyal dog appears worried for its owner and it then jumps into the water to swim after its master, who has not been named in reports.

Local media report the dog became tired as it swam with the competitors and so it climbed onto contestant Mustafa Kemal Seyit’s back.

Officials then spotted the pooch and came to rescue it and take it back to dry land.

Reports state 350 people competed in the event ranging in age between 14 and 77 years old. There were two race, one of 1,500 metres and another of 3,000 metres.

Former Minister of State of Turkey Kursad Tuzmen also participated in the race and said he hoped future Olympic champions could be found at the races.
