This is the moment more than 10 uniformed security officers restrain a man who tries to stop his girlfriend from boarding a plane at an airport in a scene right out of romantic comedy ‘Love Actually’.

Footage from Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport in Fujian Province in East China shows officers nearly too stunned to react as the boyfriend named as Mr Yang tries to barge his way through a security checkpoint in Terminal 4.

As a few female officers pull at Mr Yang’s clothes to stop him from advancing into the departure lounge, other male security officials arrive and pin him to a wall.

One officer has a riot weapon and uses it to restrain Mr Yang, who was later arrested for the disruption, which authorities said delayed tens of passengers on 6th December.

Li Jie, with Xiamen airport police, said: “He had flown specially to Xiamen from Shanghai just to see his girlfriend.

“However, after he arrived in Xiamen, he learned that his girlfriend was already inside the departure lounge.

“He arrived in Terminal 4, but his girlfriend was in Terminal 3.”

According to Mr Yang and his girlfriend are both from Shandong Province in East China, but they have been in a long-distance relationship as he lives in Shanghai and she in Xiamen.

After the lovers quarrelled, Mr Yang was determined to speak to her in person and arrived in a bid to stop her from boarding her flight back to her hometown.

However, the authorities said he did not realise she was in another terminal and thought he would be able to meet her at the boarding gate as long as he got past the security checkpoint.

Reports said Mr Yang’s girlfriend took off just as he attempted to force his way past the baggage X-ray machine and metal detectors.

He was jailed for five days for the stunt, which social media users have likened to a scene straight out of a romcom.

‘Renlei Buwan Jihua-’ wrote: “He’s been watching too many romantic comedies.”

‘Benmowei’ added: “That’s not ‘bravery’. He’s just seen one too many soap operas.”
