This is the moment a lorry driver suffers a heart attack on the road and veers onto the other lane before hitting the barrier and falling into the city river.

The incident was filmed on Vyborgskaya Street in the city of Saint Petersburg in the western Russian region of Leningrad Oblast at around 6am.

In the footage, the lorry is seen driving along the empty road before suddenly veering left and crossing the central reservation.

The lorry crosses over the opposite side of the road and mounts the pavement, knocking over a sign.

The vehicle then smashes into the barrier and falls off the road bridge, landing in the Neva River where it is seen bobbing along on the surface for several moments.

According to local media, the 41-year-old driver suffered a heart attack while on the road.

The lorry was found at a depth of between 50 and 70 metres (164 and 230 feet) in the Neva River and the local authorities retrieved the dead driver’s body about an hour later, according to reports.

The body has been taken to a local morgue for an autopsy to confirm the exact cause of death but local media reported it was a heart attack.

The investigation is ongoing.
