This is the moment a lorry smashes into a car and then flies off the road, crushing a couple into a metal barrier and severely injuring them both.

The incident was recorded by a security camera in the city of Gumushane in north-eastern Turkey’s Gumushane Province at around 2.30 pm on Sunday, 14th November.

As seen in the footage, before hitting Resul Tasdelen, 45, and Hatice Tasdelen, 49, who are walking together on the bridge, the small lorry smashes into the small car.

The lorry’s speed and weight push the car out of the way with relative ease before the lorry then slams directly into the couple on the bridge, crushing them against the metal barrier.

The metal barrier is knocked out of place by the impact and the lorry comes to a standstill with its front end hanging over the edge of the bridge.

The emergency services were called to the scene and the couple was taken to a hospital, according to the local media outlet Milliyet, which also reported that Hatice was severely injured and is currently fighting for her life.

The lorry driver, named as Ismet A., and the driver of the car, Omercan S., were also injured in the accident and were taken to hospital, but it is not clear how severe their injuries are, still according to Milliyet.

The causes of the incident are currently being investigated, but, according to Milliyet, it is believed that the lorry’s brakes failed.
