This is the moment cars stop in the middle of a busy dual carriageway to allow a motorist to rescue a crossing dog moments before a lorry driver ploughs into the queuing vehicles.
The incident was filmed by a CCTV camera in the municipality of Naucalpan de Juarez in the central Mexican capital Mexico City and was shared on social media by the local emergency services.
The local authorities also confirmed that several motorists were injured in the incident, although it is unclear if anyone is in a serious condition.
In the footage, several cars are seen slowing down for a dog that is trapped near the central reservation.
While motorists stop to allow a man to run into the road to rescue the dog, a queue of seven vehicles builds.
Just as the man picks up the trapped dog, a huge speeding lorry enters the frame and the driver appears to make no effort to slow down as he approaches the queue of cars.
The lorry ploughs into the stationary vehicles and nearly hits the man with the dog in his arms.
Reports did not mention if the police are investigating the matter.
Netizen ‘Rafaelmart30’ blamed the dog rescuer, commenting: “People do stupid things for animals and forget about the most important thing – people! He risked the lives of a lot of people for that animal.”
‘GaboxLive’ said: “That lorry could have stopped in time. They always wait until they are a few metres away. If they see something from far away, they keep going regardless.”
