This is the moment a lorry is engulfed in a ball of flames at a filling station just moments after an attendant spots a fuel leak and the driver tries to move his vehicle.

The incident happened at the Kaitian natural gas filling station in the town of Hongguang in Helan County, which is in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in north-western China, on 23rd November.

CCTV cameras at the filling station show attendant Huang Yongzhen spotting a puddle of liquid gas on the ground underneath the parked lorry.

She knocks on the driver’s window to inform him of the leak, which appears to be seeping out of his cargo box.

But a large fireball engulfs the lorry and also burns Ms Huang seconds later when the owner starts his engine and tries to drive off from the station selling compressed natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas.

As the fire grows and the lorry driver opens his door and runs away, Ms Huang and her colleagues rush back towards the flames and begin spraying fire extinguishers at them.

The brave attendants spend the next three minutes tackling the blaze, which reports said were ignited a second time when the lorry driver opened the cargo box and let in a fresh supply of oxygen.

The fire scare fortunately caused no serious injuries, and was dealt with swiftly by the well-trained staff.

However, the precise cause of the suspected gas leak and subsequent fire are still under investigation.
