This is the hair-raising road carved into a Turkish mountainside which has been compared to the most dangerous road in the world.

The helter-skelter 18-bend road, which has cut travelling time to the commercial centre from two and a half hours to 30 minutes, is in the neighbourhood of Ozlukent in the town of Kabaduz in the north-eastern Turkish province of Ordu.

According to the newspaper Hurriyet, a Turkish power plant company built the road for access, and it has since been opened to the public at the request of residents from five nearby neighbourhoods.

The road has been likened to the D915 Derebasi Curves in the north-eastern Turkish city of Trabzon, which has been dubbed ‘the most dangerous road in the world’ by local media.

Neighbourhood head Mithat Tepe told the news site Milliyet: “This road, which has a lot of bends, is very dangerous. We expect this road to be improved along with other routes. It is a very difficult road, one has to be very careful when driving.”

Local resident Muhammet Tepe said: “The road has very dangerous bends. There is also a high possibility of landslides when it rains. That’s why the road frightens me so much.”

Another local, Havva Topcu, said: “I used this road for the first time. It was very scary and I will never use it. There are no barriers on the bends. Our neighbour drove into a stream while using this route.”

Local residents are asking for guard rails to be installed on the road to avoid cars coming off it.

No official statement has been made by authorities regarding possible infrastructure improvements.
