This is the moment around 200 locals loot sacks of corn and reportedly ignore the injured driver after a lorry overturned and spilled its load on the roadside.

The accident reportedly took place on the motorway between the cities of Buga and Buenaventura in the western Colombian department of Valle de Cauca.

In the footage, a large group of residents are seen carrying away containers of corn after a lorry overturned and spilled its load on the roadside.

Some locals carry sacks of corn on their shoulders while other people continually arrive to take advantage of the situation.

At the end of the video, several people are seen using buckets and makeshift containers to scoop mounds of spilled corn into.

According to police spokesperson Hernan Carvajal, no one tried to help the lorry driver who was reportedly injured during the accident.

The police arrived on the scene to prevent the cargo from being looted, but they were unable to prevent the hundreds of residents taking advantage of the incident, according to local media.

Carvajal told reporters “There were approximately 200 people taking the lorry’s spilled cargo. There lack of solidarity should be notes, as they stole the cargo instead of helping the driver.”

According to the local authorities, an investigation has been launched to identify the people in the footage and try to recover some of the looted cargo.
