This is the moment people fire guns in the air at a funeral to honour a 16-year-old suspected gang member who was gunned down when trying to rob a doctor.

The unusual funeral took place in the area of Zavaleta in the eastern Argentine capital Buenos Aires when a large group assembled to pay tribute to the teen and reportedly fired over 100 times into the sky.

According to local media, teenager Ezequiel Yoel was found inside a car in the area with a bullet wound, and later died in hospital.

Police suspect that he received the bullet wound during an attempted armed robbery on Dr Ernesto Crescenti.

Although he died the same night as the robbery attempt, his involvement has yet to be confirmed.

According to reports, Dr Crescenti was returning home after several days away and when he was parking at his home, four men suddenly surrounded his car.

The doctor refused to give the thieves his car, and one gang member fired a warning shot into the air.

At this point, reports said that Dr Crescenti took out his licensed Glock gun and started shooting.

The doctor told local media: “I went to take out my luggage and I had my weapon with me because this was not the first violent situation I have experienced.

“I saw a vehicle stopping and someone got out, shooting. I fired back.”

Hours later, Yoel was found inside the car and he died shortly afterwards.

Police are still trying to track down the armed gang members one week after the robbery attempt and Dr Crescenti has not been arrested.

One suspected gang member, of Peruvian nationality, has been arrested according to reports.

The investigation is ongoing.
