According to the latest official figures, at least 43,556 people have died in the magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 earthquakes on 6th February that were centred in Turkey’s southern Kahramanmaras province.

It also struck 10 other provinces – Hatay, Gaziantep, Malatya, Adiyaman, Adana, Diyarbakir, Kilis, Osmaniye, Sanliurfa, and Elazig.

Among those that survived was Fatma Ela Asıcı, who is just four-and-a-half years old, who lost an arm and is seen here at a hospital in Kahramanmaras with her parents when she received the surprise visit.

In a video making the rounds on some social media platforms, the Turkish Air Force Command soldiers paid a surprise visit to Fatma.

The soldiers met her reportedly in the company of her parents, and despite her lost arm she greeted them with a smile and laughter.

During this visit, she played cheerfully with the soldiers who brought games and colouring ink and drawings as well as other toys.

The soldiers made the morale boosting trip to tear the youngster up and the Turkish Ministry of Defense joined in saying in a post: “We Love You Fatma Ela, always smile”.

The support shown to Fatma is one of the many moral supports rendered to survivors and bereaved families impacted by the recent earthquake in Kahramanmaras region, southern Turkey.
