Brave little Theo Lemos is now smiling again after the ordeal at his babysitter’s home in Sao Vicente, Brazil, on 18th January.

His mum, 21-year-old Kawany da Silva, had dropped him off so she could attend a nursing course.

But just five minutes later, the babysitter had run out into the street and frantically called her back.

She explained how as soon as one-year-old Theo had gone through the gate, her dog – a German Sheprador, which is a cross between a German Shepherd and Labrador Retriever – had pounced on him.

In a terrifying attack, it ripped off part of his ear and left him with a torn cheek.

Horrified Kawany took the lad to Hospital do Vicentino, where – she claims – she was told to go to another hospital by her own means, as they lacked staff.

So she took Theo to Santa Casa de Misericordia de Santos, where the brave lad was operated on.

As of 24th January, he was stable but remained in hospital receiving antibiotics, painkillers, and other assistance.

Kawany revealed how the surgery cost more than BRL 6,000 (GBP 950), which the young mum managed to pay with the help of friends.

However, she has more bills to come for Theo’s hospital stay and pending reconstructive surgery and speech therapy.

She is currently trying to crowdfund the cash.

She told local media: “People are collaborating, thank God. I see God using people to help us.”

And forgiving Kawany bears no hard feelings towards the babysitter.

She said: “Some say it should all be on her shoulders, that she’s to blame, but it was just bad luck.

“She likely doesn’t have the financial conditions, just like I don’t, to pay the hospital expenses.”
