A Singapore tower block has introduced new social distancing measures where lift occupants have to stand in one of nine designated spots with their faces to the wall.

As governments and international health bodies stress the importance of social distancing amid the COVID-19 outbreak, and Maybank Tower in Singapore has introduced new measures for standing in lifts.

As seen in the photos, clear markings have been placed on the floor to indicate where occupants need to stand.

The nine allocated spots point towards the lift’s walls, specifying that occupants need to stand away from other people while maintaining a safe distance.

According to local media, the measure has also been introduced at Sawanpracharak Hospital in Thailand.

Compared to Maybank Tower, occupants are not expected to stand in the middle of the lift and eight spaces have only been marked around the sides, as seen in the photo.

The Perpetual Succour Hospital in the Philippines has also introduced similar measures in lifts while reminding people to “remain COVID-19 free and practice social distancing at all times especially in enclosed areas such as elevators”.

Five spaces have been allocated in the lift, which includes an elevator assistant.

Four spaces are position in each corner while a fifth spot is located in the middle of the elevator.

Meanwhile, no one is allowed to press any buttons except for the elevator assistant.
