This is the shocking moment a lift starts moving before the doors had closed and a mother had time to take her baby pram out, crushing it against the ceiling and reportedly causing the infant to tumble down the shaft to her death.

The bay’s mother Gulperi Karasal, who lives in the neighbourhood of Kizilpinar in the district of Cerkezkoy in the north-western Turkish province of Tekirdag, took the lift to the ground floor with her children on 9th August.

While the mother was taking her two-month-old daughter, named Avzem Ada Karasal, out of the lift in a pram, the elevator suddenly started moving before the doors had closed.

In the footage, the pram is seen being crushed against the ceiling as the mum tries to pull it down. She then runs to a nearby apartment and frantically bangs on the door.

The baby reportedly fell six metres (19.6 feet) down the shaft, and emergency crews were sent to the scene.

Little Avzem Ada was taken to the Cerkezkoy State Hospital before being transferred to a hospital in Istanbul.

According to the news site Haberler, the two-month-old tot died in hospital despite the best efforts of attending doctors.

The local police have confirmed that they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death.
