A lucky punter has hit the jackpot after he used his change to buy a lottery ticket in a gas station.

Matthew Spaulding, 41 – from West Bloomfield, Michigan State, USA – was amazed when he realised he’d won with the single ticket he had bought.

The win – from USD 5 (GBP 4) in loose change – was worth a sensational USD 107,590 (GBP 86,617).

Spaulding was checking out at a Mobil petrol station in Ann Arbor, Michigan state, USA, when he decided buy a Money Match Fast Cash ticket.

He said in a statement obtained by Newsflash from the Michigan Lottery: “The clerk handed me back USD 5 [GBP 4] in change.

“I don’t usually play Fast Cash, but I saw a Fast Cash sign by their register and told him I’d like to use my change on a Money Match ticket.

“I looked over the ticket while I was walking out of the store and when I saw I’d won the jackpot, I completely lost it.

“I startled some of the customers because I started shouting and celebrating. It was such an awesome feeling!”

Following the grand win Spaulding claimed his prize at the Michigan Lottery headquarters in the city of Lansing on Tuesday, 24th January.

He told lottery officials that he plans to save his winnings.

Fast Cash games whose price ranges from USD 2 [GBP 1.6] per play up to USD 20 [GBP 16.1] per play are a series of instant-win games that print from terminals at Lottery retailers.
