This is the moment a toddler wanders onto the windowsill of a fourth-story apartment as terrified residents stretch out a bed sheet below in case he fell.

Local media said the toddler was not alone in the house, but his mum was sleeping off a hangover in the next room when the incident took place.

Residents in the district of Kirovsky in the Russian federal subject of Perm Krai caught sight of the toddler after he climbed on the windowsill on the fourth floor of a residential building on Monday (10th May).

Local news outlet TV Samara said residents immediately contacted the emergency services and while they waited they stretched a bed sheet under the apartment as a makeshift safety net.

In the video, the group of concerned residents is seen waiting under the window with their ‘safety net’ while the toddler walks along the windowsill.

The toddler, who seems unaware of how close he is to falling, looks down at the residents from the window and utters a few words in baby language.

TV Samara reported that one of the witnesses didn’t wait for the emergency services to arrive and went up to the apartment and kicked down the door.

The unnamed resident entered the apartment and pulled the toddler to safety from the window.

Local news site Vesti reported that the toddler was not alone in the house and that his 28-year-old mother was sleeping off a hangover after a heavy night of drinking.

Vesti added that the emergency services arrived 25 minutes later at which point the toddler’s mother still had not woken from her slumber.

The press service for the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that the mother is being investigated for failing to fulfil her duties as a parent.
