A lawyer accused of murdering his love-triangle rival has used his free phone call in detention to ask an animal shelter to look after his dog.

The tragedy played out when Alina Lavskaya started a relationship with Sergei Vasiliev in the Russian region of Pskov Oblast, but later dumped him to be with Alexander Vasiliev.

The new couple appeared to be getting on well and even got engaged when she became pregnant.

However, the new lover reportedly became violent and had attacked her, prompting her to go back to her former lawyer lover to see if he could help her get a restraining order.

Sergei was furious at the alleged mistreatment, and decided to arrange a meeting with his rival, according to reports.

He claimed he had only wanted to discuss the matter, saying: “I told him you know what we are here for. She’s pregnant, it could be either one of us who is the father.”

He said that the conversation had not gone as planned and he ended up allegedly beating his rival to death at his parents’ home before burying his body in the woods.

He went home and got on with his life before the police finally turned up to arrest him, and being a lawyer, had known he was entitled to one phone call.

He used it to ring the Dobry animal shelter, located in the district of Porkhovsky in Pskov Oblast, and asked them to look after his beloved dog Nika as the investigation continues.
