A lawyer who complained on Facebook that his wife was cheating on him has been accused of killing their children later that day by hammering nails into their heads.

Lucas Phasha, 52, allegedly struck three of them with an axe and hammered the nails into their heads and then hit the fourth over the head with a rock so severely that her skull caved in during the brutal attack that took place in the family home in South Africa.

He has now gone on trial at Polokwane High Court in the city of Polokwane in the province of Limpopo on four charges of murder.

Three of the defendant’s four children had injuries that police say were caused by the axe, and they were also found with nails hammered into their heads behind their ears.

The fourth, a three-year-old girl who was the youngest, was discovered with her head caved in after allegedly being hit with a rock.

The victims have been identified as Katlego, 9, Joyce, 7, Tshepo, 5, and Adel, 3.

The defendant is accused of killing them in the village of Ga-Phasha in the district of Sekhukhune on 17th February 2020.

On the same day, the defendant reportedly accused his wife Sylvia Monyela of cheating on him on Facebook.

He was also quoted as saying she neglected the children and would never see them again.

Monyela testified in court on Wednesday and said that the defendant used to beat her and that her body is covered in scars as a result of the alleged abuse.

She also said: “This man killed my four children. He hacked three of them with an axe and drove nails into their heads. He hit the young one with a huge stone on the head.”

The case continues.
