This is the moment a large kitchen knife suddenly falls from the sky and misses a woman by millimetres.

The incident was filmed when the woman, name not reported, was leaving her apartment building in Wuhan in the Chinese province of Hubei and a falling knife whizzed past her head and crashed on the ground by her feet.

Local media said, due to how fast the knife fell and the way it bounced on impact with the ground, that it came from an upper floor apartment.

In the footage, a heavyset woman is seen leaving the apartment building just as an object apparently whistles past her head and bounces on the ground.

The woman and a resident passing by at the time startle at the fallen object and look to see what it was.

The heavyset woman gazes up at where it had fallen from as the resident walks over to inspect the object, apparently a large knife.

They both walk towards an entrance shortly before a man comes out and picks up the knife from the ground.

It is unclear how the blade fell from the upper floor apartment and if a complaint has been filed with the police.
