Landslide Kills Afghan Worker At Excavated Building Site In Iran

This is the moment a landslide at an excavated construction site crumbles onto a building platform in Iran and kills an Afghan worker.

The incident was filmed at a building site on Kashan Street in District 22 in the Iranian capital Tehran last week.

Local reports blamed the incident on the carelessness of contractors at the building site after the foreign worker was killed in the incident.

Eyewitness Soraya Roozbehani told local media: “The team was working when a wall on the left side of the excavated area suddenly collapsed.

“It happened very quickly and the young worker’s attempt to save himself was in vain because he was stuck on the side of the reinforced rebars.

“Of course, there were other workers in the area who were, fortunately, able to escape from the scene.”

Jalal Maleki, the spokesman for the Tehran Municipality Fire and Safety Service, said: “After receiving the news of the accident, teams from two fire stations were immediately sent to the area with the necessary equipment.”

He added that the excavated site, set aside for commercial and residential projects, covered an area of 1,500 square metres at a depth of 15 metres.

After the landslide, rescuers tried to save the trapped Afghan worker and eventually managed to pull him out of the rocks and debris, however, paramedics on the scene could only pronounce the 22-year-old man deceased.
