In Russia, millions of cars are equipped with dashboard cameras in order to make clear in the event of incidents where the fault occurred.

The footage can be used in making insurance claims or in providing evidence to the police that there was no fault by the driver.

The cams also provides thousands of videos including meteorites crashing through the sky, wild animals on the road or the more usual car accidents.

In this case, the car involved, a Lada, is not known for speeding and is often the butt of jokes based on the fact that the cars were popularly believed to be badly engineered.

In the UK, there is even a whole category of Lada jokes, even though in Russia they are mainly referred to as being VAZ vehicles, which is a short form for the Volga Automotive Plant.

The vehicle was also manufactured under the names Zhiguli, Oka, and Sputnik, which were stopped in the 1990s in order for ‘Lada’ to take their place.
